Abby Erceg, the NC Courage’s New Zealand captain is possibly going to spend some international team with her native country in 2019.
The NC Courage captain, 29, has played in international competition for New Zealand for the past 12 years, captain of the squad for 3 years (2014-2017).
The Football Ferns have been drawn in Group E for the FIFA Women’s World Cup where they will face Canada, Cameroon and the Netherlands. The New Zealand Football Ferns squad for the Cup of Nations in Australia in February and March will be named next week.
International Play Leaving Holes for the Courage
Assuming the 2018 lineup is similar in 2019, the 2019 World Cup means the Courage will be down multiple players, including possibly Erceg for New Zealand. For the USWNT, possible player absences from the courage include Abby Dahlkemper, Sam Mewis, Jess McDonald, Crystal Dunn, and McCall Zerboni. For Brazil, Debinha could be on their roster. Denise O’Sullivan would have been on the Irish national team as well, had the squad qualified for the World Cup.
