The late Saturday afternoon home match against OL Reign on June 19, 2021 match was the second against the Washington state-based OL Reign and the first against them at home.

The game was scoreless nearly the entire first half before Jess McDonald scored in the 45′.

McDonald said reps in practice the week leading up to the match helped.

“In the case of my goal, I just read Merritt’s body language and I was in the right place at the right time, she put in an impeccable cross and it found my noggin so I could put it in!”

With an assist from Lynn Williams in 78′, Sam Mewis scored her first goal since returning to the NC Courage this season.

The Courage next head to Kentucky to face the Racing Lousiville this Wednesday, June 23, 2021 with a 7:30 ET start at Lynn Family Stadium, with US streaming on Paramount+.

NC Courage’s head coach, Paul Riley said the defenders played well in the 2-1 win for North Carolina.

“I liked what the backline did,” Riley said.

“I feel bad I thought they were so good, they deserved a clean sheet. But either way, we deserved to win and I’m proud of the performance.”
