The Saturday, May 22, 2021 match was the 2021 season opener for the Courage in Cary, NC, again facing the Orlando Pride, their last home opponent in the 2021 Challenge Cup. Orlando scored the first and second goals of the match, while the Courage had the last goal, ending the game 2-1.
Veterans Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan both scored for the Orlando Pride before Jess McDonald got the Courage on the board in the 89′.
“To be honest, I thought we were absolutely immaculate in the second half,” McDonald said.
“We created a lot of chances that we should have put away but we obviously failed to do so and that’s a little frustrating, so obviously we’re gonna grow from the mistakes today.”
The Courage are now back in full training mode before playing their second home match of the 2021 regular season against the NWSL’s newest team, Racing Louisville on Friday, May 28.
