Speck Added to NC Courage Season-Ending Injury Reserve

Today the NC Courage announced a third player added to the season-ending injury reserve for the 2023 season. Veteran midfielder and longtime NC Courage player Meredith Speck has been added to the season-ending injury reserve following Wednesday, July 19, 2023’s successful surgery to repair Speck’s torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Speck’s injury occurred during a tackle in the NC Courage’s home match versus Racing Louisville just under a month ago on June 24, 2023.

Speck is the longest tenured member of the Cary, NC-based North Carolina Courage. Speck has played for the club since the club’s relocation from the Western New York Flash where she first signed in April 2016, the same year the Flash notched their NWSL Championship.

In 2013, Speck started in nine matches, playing in a total of 10 league matches. She finishes her 2023 NWSL season with a total of 633 minutes with a passing accuracy over 81% and tackle success of nearly 65%. She also scored a goal from her central midfield role this season.

As of the posting of this article, the NC Courage roster has 24 active players that includes four players on National Team replacement contracts, a trio on the season-ending injury list and six on international duty for the Women’s World Cup.

The next match for the Courage is at home this weekend. They return to action Saturday when they host the Washington Spirit for UKG NWSL Challenge Cup action at 7:00 p.m. ET at WakeMed Soccer Park.
